Leyva said: “These children go through so much, and their families [do, too] . . . There are very few moments of having fun and just relaxing and just living, and laughter, and having a moment when they feel good about themselves. This prom is a celebration for them.”
Leyva is especially dedicated to the Gabrielle’s Angel Foundation’s cause because her own brother battled thyroid cancer when he was a teenager. Taking part in this year’s prom is her way of giving back to the hospital that saved her brother’s life.
