In an interview, Orange star Danielle Brooks (Tasha “Taystee” Jefferson) let slip to E! news at the 2017 SAG awards that the events of season 5 of the Netflix hit series are to take place over just three days. That means we can expect to see the intensity of prison riots and the dangers that the incarcerated face at the hands of their correctional officers. Brooks said
“Season five is done over the course of three days. You will watch 13 episodes and find out what happens in teh course of three days. So, it will be very detailed, very intense, and you better get ready. Get your popcorn, your tissues, everything.”
Many viewers are aching for justice in the wrongful and sudden death of fan-favorite Poussey Washington (portrayed by Samira Wiley), and others are still on the edge of their seats awaiting the return of the C.O. John Bennett (Matt McGorry) and Daya Diaz (Dascha Polanco) story line in the midst of the will-she/won’t-she debate over whether or not she’ll pull the trigger on C.O. Humphrey, one of the more detestable C.O.s Litchfield has seen as of late.
Since this interview, Netflix announced that season five will launch in its entirety on June 9, 2017. Last year it was confirmed that Orange has secured three more seasons (five, six, and seven) on Netflix, taking us (lkely) through the summer of 2019.
Netflix tends to keep details under wraps, but you’ll be the first to know when new information is spilled!
