Angie Rice (portrayed by Julie Lake), also known as the “potato with eyes,” “Angelina Jolie,” (Pennsatucky), and “dyke bait” (Leanne Taylor), works in the laundry at Litchfield Penitentiary, in which she kept a pet frog named Benny for eight months which eventually suffocated and died. She was one of Pennsatucky‘s meth-head groupies in season one; however, upon her cocky return in season two, she follows Leanne Taylor‘s lead, and the two abandon their former lead after standing up to her. Though Angie backs Leanne up on her thoughts about ‘Tucky’s mean personality, she is not very vocal about it.
She and Leanne join Brook Soso’s hunger strike, wanting to make a difference in the prison, although their list of demands is a bit elementary and unrelated to the original mission of prison justice. Despite their idea to become their own group and to not follow anyone, joining the hunger strike, which is supposedly a “leaderless organization” makes them belong to a group, thus proving that neither of them have conviction enough to be their own person.
Season three brings an unexpected surprise when Angie’s wish comes true: a bag of heroin falls from the ceiling. She and Leanne use all of it before telling one of the prison guards that drugs have been smuggled into the prison, a tip which is entirely ignored. Feeling rather spiritual since her initial birthday wish for heroin came true, she begins following Norma’s group because Leanne does, thus repeating her previous pattern of following rather than leading. She is rewarded with yet another positive twist of fate when the MCC’s new inmate database mixes up her inmate number and photo with another Rice who is to be released from prison.
Discharged due to incompetence, Angie is left at a bus station with a voucher to New Jersey and forty bucks. When Joe Caputo comes looking for her, she is still sitting in the bus station because she knows nobody in Jersey and the train station was too far of a walk. She is offered two nights at the SHU if she does not resist arrest and the return to Litchfield, which is not bad considering she is technically an escaped convict. She says that the SHU is the worst thing that ever happened to her, which seems to be the general consensus.
In season four, Angie Rice is identified as the mystery shower pooper. She has been swallowing drugs her boyfriend has been smuggling to her in the visitation room when kissing her and then pooping in the shower to retrieve them. When Red approaches her forbidding her to sell to Nicky, she attempts to bargain with her but immediately backs down when she realizes who she’s dealing with.
